What does the manor smell like? What do the dishes of the manor taste like? How did the courtiers dress? And what is there to see, hear and touch? The “Travelling Aristavėlė Manor” is a project that will provide the opportunity to experience the culture of manor houses through a variety of different senses and will travel around ten Lithuanian regions and two Lithuanian communities in Norway!

The “Travelling Aristavėlė Manor” starts its autumn tour on the 18th of October in Kaišiadorys, Teofilius Matulionis Square (near the Municipality building, Katedros str. 4) where we will be waiting for everyone from 10:00 am.

How will Aristavėlė Manor be able to travel so much? A mobile and interactive exposition of the manor from the late 18th to mid-19th century has been created, where visitors will get to know the culture of this particular manor, as well as the culture of Lithuanian manors in general, through the different senses of smell, taste, sight, hearing and touch. For example, this traveling manor has a photo-mirror where you can interactively try on the manor’s clothes and take home a printed photo.

The unique Manor of Aristavėlė is a valuable example of Lithuanian wooden architecture of the Baroque period, which can be seen at the Open Air Museum in Rumšiškės. The manor is not grand and luxurious, but it has well preserved the typical appearance of a noble residence, with a legacy that reflects the material and spiritual culture of the middle nobility.

The project “Travelling Aristavėlė Manor -TAM” is funded by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism Program “Culture”.
